Developed in Ann Arbor, Toyota unveils 2016 Tacoma at Detroit auto show
By David Muller
January 12, 2015
DETROIT, MI - Toyota revealed its revamped-for-2016 Tacoma mid-size pickup Monday at the 2015 North American International Auto Show on Monday.
"For the past 50 years adventure-seeking Americans have relied on Toyota trucks to take them places, on and off-road," said Bill Fay, group vice president & general manager, Toyota Division. "The all-new homegrown Tacoma is a tough truck designed, developed and built for lifestyles of the young and young-at-heart.
The new Tacoma will land in an increasingly competitive midsize pickups segment, in which General Motors' 2015 Chevrolet Colorado is returning after a two-year hiatus. The Colorado was also named Motor Trend's Truck of the Year this week.
The Tacoma has not been redesigned in 10 years.
The latest incarnation will come equipped with either a 2.7L, four-cylinder engine and an all-new, 3.5L Atkinson cycle V6 with both direct and port fuel injection.
Both engines will be available with a 6-speed, automatic transmission; the V6 engine will be available with a six-speed manual transmission.
The 2016 Tacoma was developed and engineered at the Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor and designed in Ann Arbor and in Newport Beach, Calif.
The mid-size truck is being built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas in San Antonio and at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Baja California in Baja California, Mexico.
More than 40 vehicles are expected to be unveiled at the 2015 NAIAS. The show runs Jan. 12-25 in Detroit. Press preview days are Jan. 12-13, followed by industry preview Jan. 14-15 and a charity preview on Jan. 16.
The show will be open to the public Jan. 17-25. More than 750 vehicles will be on display, and some 800,000 attendees are expected to pass through the Cobo Center's doors for the event. Tickets to the 2015 public show days are $7 for senior citizens and children between 7-12 years old; $13 for adults; and free for children 6 and under. For more information on tickets, visit naias.com.

1. Minivan: Honda Odyssey
2. Cargo Van: Chevrolet Express/GMC Savanna
3. Performance Car: Chevrolet Corvette
4. Sedan: Toyota Camry*
5. Pickup Truck: Toyota Tundra*
6. SUV: Buick Enclave
7. Luxury Car: Acura RDX
8. Compact Car: Toyota Corolla*
9. Hybrid: Ford C-Max
10. Crossover: Chevrolet Equinox/GMC Terrain
*According to the Wall ST Cheat Sheet, "America's best-selling midsize sedan [Toyota
Camry] is also one of the most
North American-made sedans, as well. Toyota (NYSE:TM) gets 75
percent of its parts from America or Canada
(another 20% are from Japan), while the final assembly is done in the U.S.,
with an American Engine. Despite the
Tundra being made of more American parts than its domestic counterparts. Like
the Camry, the Tundra uses
3/4 of its parts from the States or Canada. By comparison, the Silverado is made
up of just 40 percent North
American-sourced parts. (Note: the Ford F-Series was not ranked
on the NHTSA's listing; the Tundra was the highest
ranking truck found on the list provided). The Toyota Corolla
is made up of parts split between North America (60%)
and Japan (30 percent)."

05-01-12 - Sunroad Automotive Honors American Heroes with Military Appreciation
Sale to Benefit Local USO
San Diego, Calif. – April 23, 2012 – Sunroad Automotive is celebrating its 35 years of being a part of the community by honoring its heroes. In support of the families of current and former military personnel, Sunroad Automotive is donating to the local military USO from the proceeds of its month-long Military Appreciation Sale. Automotive customers who purchase a vehicle during the month of May will be helping Sunroad Automotive donate a pledged $21,000 to the local USO. In addition to the donation, the San Diego-based company will be offering huge savings and special discounts to active and retired military members.
Sunroad Automotive kicked off this event on Tuesday, April 24th, at USO’s weekly Tuesday Night Dinner where its employees personally served the families in attendance and paid for the dinner.
“We are proud to serve the families of our community’s heroes. They have embraced us whole heartedly with their big smiles and great gratitude when they’ve endured so much for our country. This is just our small way of extending our appreciation for their continued sacrifices.” said Wayne Meyer, president of Sunroad Automotive.
Proceeds of the sale will also benefit USO’s weekly dinners, store, concerts and volunteer program. Active and retired military are encouraged to purchase a vehicle during this time to support these programs.
Sunroad Automotive was established in San Diego in 1984. Its dealerships that are participating in this event include: Pacific Honda, Toyota Chula Vista, Kearny Pearson Ford, Kearny Pearson Kia, Kearny Mesa Infiniti, Kearny Mesa Subaru, Kearny Mesa Hyundai and BMW South County.
